Home Management: Creating an Orderly, Heavenly Home
Home Management: Creating an Orderly, Heavenly Home
Introduction
Hello everyone! For this post, I’m drawing inspiration from a guided reference I found on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints website (link above). This resource will be the foundation for my next few blog posts.
Home and family are central themes in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It’s no surprise, then, that the Church offers rich guidance on managing our homes with purpose and love.
An Orderly Home is a Heavenly Home
I recently searched for quotes about the power of an orderly home, and I’d love to share some favorites. I’ve bolded the ones that resonated with me most. What are some quotes you’ve come across? Please share in the comments—I’d love to know!
Jani Ortlund: “I believe that a godly home is a foretaste of heaven.” She also writes, “Our homes, imperfect as they are, must be a haven from the chaos outside,” and “They should be a reflection of our eternal home, where troubled souls find peace, weary hearts find rest…”
Focus on the Family: “A Christian home is orderly... As the apostle Paul says, ‘God is not the author of confusion but of peace’ (1 Corinthians 14:33).”
Jennifer Waddle (via iBelieve.com): “Keeping a well-ordered home can promote a heart of gratefulness when viewed as a blessing instead of a burden.” She adds, “To wake up each day to a home that is tidy can provide an extraordinary mindset of peace.”
LDS Teachings: “The scriptures tell us that the Spirit of the Lord cannot dwell in a place of confusion or uncleanliness.” This suggests that maintaining a clean and orderly home is conducive to feeling the Lord’s Spirit.
Catechist Magazine: “Our true home is in heaven with God,” and “May we open our hearts and our homes to you, that you may make our earthly homes places of peace, serenity, comfort, harmony, and happiness.”
Wisdom Hunters: “When we look ahead to our true and eternal future, we begin to order our homes in the present by the values and virtues of the eternal kingdom of God.”
Church Bulletin Inserts: “God is not a God of confusion, but of order... An orderly home reflects God’s character.”
What Is the Purpose of Our Life?
The purpose of our lives is to come unto Christ and share His Gospel with all who are willing to hear. But here’s an important reminder: not everyone who is willing to hear is ready—yet. And that’s okay.
I’ve had my own experiences with repentance. I never felt unloved or left out—just remorseful for past mistakes and determined to become worthy again: to enter the Temple and to partake of the sacrament. Repentance processes may look different in other faiths, and I’m curious to learn more about that (maybe in a future post!).
How Should We Spend Our Time?
As homemakers, does that mean we must spend all our time at home? Absolutely not! While home is important, it’s also vital to teach ourselves and our families to be sociable, active members of both church and neighborhood communities.
For example, I’ve recently joined our Neighborhood Watch Association, received a calling to teach our energetic 10-11 year olds in Primary, and joined a couple of book clubs. That’s just what fits my current season of life—your opportunities may look different, and that’s wonderful!
Final Thoughts
Home management isn’t just about cleaning or organizing—it’s about creating a haven where the Spirit can dwell, and where our families can grow in love and faith. I’m excited to keep exploring these topics with you in future posts.
